The “Stinger” Brandon Arthur looked to be picking up right where he left off after sweeping rounds one and two in the season opener in Arizona. During qualifying for round three of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Lake Elsinore, CA, the Stinger was at the top of the list; qualifying number one. The Competitive Metals, Pro Traffic Services,Toyo Tires, HRT Motorsports, Method Race Wheels, Magnaflow, Aeromotive Fuel Systems, F&L Racing Fuel, Impact, FOX,Heatshield Products, Maxima Racing Oils, FiberwerX, Summers Brothers, Wirefab, ECP Powder Coating, Bink Designs, Axis Rod Ends, and Redline Performance Pro Lite Truck was prepped to its customary level of precision in anticipation of another strong performance.
At the drop of the green flag, Brandon could feel it immediately; the truck was down on power. With his foot buried into the firewall, he came out of turn one in third place. The easiest scenario for Brandon would have been a quick, caution-free race. Unfortunately, he got the opposite. Filled with cautions that made it drag on for what seemed forever, the engine was getting hot and undoubtedly causing damage as time went on. The Stinger used his truck handling skills to milk every ounce of power out of the wounded engine and get it to the ground. Despite tough competition, he held onto third spot for another podium finish.
“We were down on power, the truck got real hot but held together,” said Brandon, “We had to pull the heads off and replace the head gaskets after round three. It was not 100 percent but it was still running. On Sunday before our race, a dust devil blew through and destroyed our canopy; it was a crazy weekend.”
Down on power, and missing their canopy, the team was still in good spirits. They qualified back in the ninth position so it was up to the Stinger to race his way to the front in round four. “I tried my best to keep my momentum,” said Brandon, “My Toyo Tires were really hooked up so I could drive it real deep in the corners and get on the gas early.” The Stinger battled the entire way and finished just off the podium in fourth place. Despite having a rough weekend, the team is sitting second in points going into rounds 5 and 6 on May 21st and 22nd at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Tooele, UT. They will be anxious to get back on the track and continue their assault on the Pro Lite Championship for 2016.
