Lake Elsinore, CA
You can’t be thin skinned or shy about contact if you are going to race in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series; especially in the Pro Lite class. With huge numbers of trucks filling every square inch of the track and a long list of talented and aggressive drivers; it can get hairy on race day. It almost seems a shame to take a truck as beautiful as Brandon Arthur’s Competitive Metals, Pro Traffic Services, Rigid Industries, Toyo Tires Pro Lite Chevrolet into battle but Brandon is fueled by the competition. When everything comes together and he lands on the podium, it doesn’t get any better. At rounds 5 and 6 in Lake Elsinore, California Brandon would experience the gamut of Pro Lite racing.
“Saturday we qualified first overall, and drew a second spot after the inversion,” said Brandon, “We started on the inside of the second row. I got a good start and came out of turn one in 4th place behind Deberti, RJ was leading. I passed Deberti after a couple of laps then started to catch RJ. I caught RJ and was battling with him for a couple of laps. A mistake dropped me back to 3rd behind Deberti again. We battled back and forth for the rest of the race.”
Brandon’s efforts got him back on the podium in third place; his first podium in the new truck. He also was awarded the fastest lap of the race. “I’m really happy to get some solid results for Competitive Metals, Pro Traffic Services, Rigid Industries LED Lighting, Toyo Tires, HRT Motorsports, Method Race Wheels, Magnaflow, Bink Designs, Aeromotive Fuel Systems, F&L Racing Fuel, Impact, FOX shocks, Heatshield Products, Maxima Racing Oils, Summers Brothers, Wirefab, ECP Powder Coating and Redline Performance,” said Brandon, “The truck is really fast, we just need to stay up front and out of trouble.”
As luck would have it in round 6 on Sunday, Brandon got nothing but trouble. He qualified well with the third fastest time in his group which put him outside row three on the grid. He came out of turn one in 4th. In turn three he got turned around and dropped all the way to the back of the pack. As he worked his way back towards the front he cut a front tire and had to pull into the hot pits. It was a quick stop by the crew but under the green flag it dropped him down a lap. Despite running the 4th fastest lap of the race, (on lap9), Brandon was unable to get back on the lead lap and finished in the 16th spot.
“It was a good weekend,” said Brandon, “We were fast and we got on the podium in our new truck. I can’t wait for rounds 7 and 8 in Utah.” Brandon will be back racing at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah on June 20-21 for rounds 7 and 8 of the Lucas Oil Series.
